Pleasant Plains Middle School HomePlus |
| As Pleasant Plains Community Unit District #8 works to improve its communication with the parents, we invite you to access the information provided by STI Home+ . In this program, you will be able to view your child’s grades, attendance, and discipline information. We hope that in giving you more access to this information, we can work together to improve your child’s opportunity for success. |

| What are some of the symbols that appear in the gradebook? |
| In addition to points, percentages and letter grades, you may see some other symbols in the grade book.
If you see a “0”, this indicates that your child turned in an assignment and answered none of the questions correctly. A “0” can also indicate that your child did not turn an assignment in, and cannot make the assignment up. A “0” will lower you student’s grade.
If you see an “X”, this indicates that your child is exempt from the assignment. This could be due to an absence or that an alternate assignment has been given to your child. An “X” does not lower your child’s grade.
If you see a blank box where a grade should be, this indicates that the teacher has entered an assignment in the grade book, but has not recorded the grades for that assignment. A blank box does not hurt your child’s grade. |

| How often is attendance entered and what are the codes for attendance? |
Attendance is entered on an hourly basis. At the beginning of each period, teachers record absences into the STI program. Mrs. Smarjesse, our attendance secretary, takes the responsibility of determining whether or not an absence is excused.
“U” for unexcused absence. This code is given if we are not certain as to the reason for the absence, or if we determine the reason is not valid. An unexcused absence can result in a “0” for missed work and possible disciplinary action.
“E” for excused absence. This code is given when a determination has been made that the absence is valid. Students have the right to make up work from an excused absence. There are time restrictions, however, on making this work up. Please check the Parent Student Handbook, pages 35-37, for more information.
“T” for tardy. A tardy results when a student is absent from a classroom for less than 10 minutes with no valid reason. Students may accrue two tardies per semester, without penalty. Upon receiving a third tardy disciplinary consequences may be administered. |

| Why can't I access the lesson plans? |
| At present, we have not activated the lesson plan function. Our teachers use a variety of lesson plan tools and strategies. Some of these are not compatible with STI. If you have questions regarding lessons, please contact your child’s teacher. |
| |
| Is the homework that shows up in the grade book the only homework my student has? |
| In STI Home+ , the only homework that is shown is that which the teacher has entered into the grade book. It is very possible that your child may have homework assignments that are due over the next few days that have not been entered. |
