In general, children shall be placed at the grade level to which they are best adjusted academically, socially, and emotionally.  The educational program shall provide for the continuous progress of children from grade to grade, with children spending one year in each grade.

The assignment of students to a particular grade level is the legal prerogative of the school administration.  This decision is based on the recommendations of the faculty and the parents and the school staff will mutually discuss any decision.

Procedures for promotion requirements and retention guidelines will be discussed at faculty meetings early in the school year.  Early intervention and remediation of student needs will be discussed as well as procedures for keeping parents and the building principal well informed.

Special Education Services

Farmingdale Elementary School provides a full spectrum of special education services in partnership with the Sangamon Area Special Education District.  Students may be screened for potential learning difficulties through Early Child Find Community Screenings, parent referral, or teacher referrals.  Early childhood education, supportive resource services, elementary community based education, and speech/language programs are provided through full time faculty.  Vision, hearing, behavior, physical and occupational therapies are itinerant services provided through SASED, as outlined in the individual educational programs.
